Do you think Bashar al-Assad has succeeded in preventing an Islamist takeover of Syria?

Where's the democracy in that if the Islamist wanna take over?It's not like he's forbidding them to do anything with their religion, but they also want to hog the whole country and turn it to their Shari'a law and force people to live under their command?I hope he takes them done one by one,cuz obviously they're only gonna eat sh*t at the end!!
