Why Didn't Republicans Oppose Govt Spending when Bush was in office? Why did Bush have a 1.2 Trillion deficit?

Bush Took the National Debt from 4.9 Trillion to 10.9 during his 2 terms. Rounded up that's more than doubling the national debt. Whats funny is Republicans never had anything to say during his 2 terms. Like when he proposed a 700 Billion dollar Prescription drug plan for medicare and medicaid customers, and passed it, why wasn't this a government take over? Why was that acceptable ? Republicans act like their party is the only party who is entitled to invest in programs yet they never practice what they preach when in office. Reagan was also a big spender. He didn't balance **** yet Clinton the Liberal was somehow able to pass Bush a surplus?
